The Biophysics Collaborative Access Team (BioCAT) Awarded $8M Grant.
The BioCAT team, led by Illinois Tech professors Thomas Irving (Biology), Weikang Ma (Biology) and Jesse Hopkins (Physics) was just awarded an 8 million dollar grant from the National Institute for General Medical Sciences at the US National Institutes of Health to continue the operation of the BioCAT Beamline 18ID at the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory for the next 5 years. We look forward to continuing to serve the scientific community during this period.

The BioCAT beamline, in operation since 1998, is a world-class facility designed specifically for biological diffraction and scattering studies, taking advantage of the recently upgraded Advanced Photon Source, now the brightest synchrotron source in the world. Experimenters come from all over the country and around the world to work with Illinois Tech researchers to study their systems and answer fundamental biological and biomedical questions. BioCAT staff are affiliated with Illinois Tech’s Center for Synchrotron Radiation Research and Instrumentation. Professors Irving and Ma are affiliated Faculty of the Pritzker Institute of Biomedical Science and Engineering.
